Alvaláxia IPLUSO

A commercial space transformed into a university campus

Located in the Alvaláxia shopping centre in Lisbon, the project consists of the adaptation and rehabilitation of a commercial space to accommodate the temporary facilities of the Instituto Politécnico da Lusofonia (IPLUSO). The intervention aimed to respond effectively to a new educational program, ensuring adequate conditions for academic use within a pre-existing context originally not designed for this purpose.

The proposal is organized around a flexible and versatile spatial structure, capable of accommodating different types of classrooms, support areas and common spaces. Functional clarity, environmental comfort and spatial adaptability guided the design decisions, creating an environment suited to the needs of students, faculty and the academic community, while ensuring coherent integration within the existing context.

The project was also developed to ensure strict compliance with the available budget and construction timeline, with a rapid design phase of 15 days followed by a 3-month construction period.
