Rodrigo da Fonseca Apartment

A family home on one of Lisbon's most iconic avenues

The project involves the rehabilitation and adaptation of the 6th floor of an existing building, previously occupied by office space, to create a self-contained residential unit with a T5 layout. The building is located within a planned urban area characterized by regular city blocks and a layered architectural fabric spanning from the 17th to the 20th centuries. The intervention takes place within one of these vertical additions, carried out in the 1970s.

The proposal develops a single-family apartment, designed for a large family, with social areas and main bedrooms positioned along the main facade to benefit from natural light and the views afforded by the elevated level. More private and service spaces — such as children’s areas, bathrooms, storage and laundry — are organized towards the rear and internal zones.

On Rua Rodrigo da Fonseca, architecture transforms an entire floor into a family home, where light and the city enter every room.
