The rehabilitation and extension project for the building on Rua de São Ciro, in the Lapa district, proposes a thorough reorganization of both interior and exterior spaces, together with the introduction of new infrastructure such as an elevator, underground parking, and the use of the roof terrace. These interventions improve the building’s functionality, accessibility, and overall quality of use, while preserving its architectural identity.
The complete redesign of the courtyard, through the introduction of underground parking and the release of the ground level for green and leisure areas with a garden and swimming pool, establishes a direct and open relationship between the dwellings and the outdoor space. At the request of the Municipality, the main facade was preserved in its essential features, while the rear facade underwent more substantial alterations. The shared roof terrace on the top floor was converted into two private terraces for the upper duplex units, taking advantage of the views towards the dome of the Basilica da Estrela. The building now comprises 13 residential units of various typologies, resulting in a balanced intervention that combines urban enhancement, residential comfort, and respect for the existing building fabric.
