The project involves the rehabilitation of an existing building located along the urban frontage that defines the historic center of Barreiro, vacant and in an advanced state of deterioration. The guiding principle was to recover and enhance the building’s structure and identity, adapting it to new T2 and T3 residential units and commercial spaces on the ground floor, through minimal and targeted interventions that improve the quality of the interior spaces.
The proposal organizes the residential areas according to a more open and flexible layout, achieved through the selective demolition of non-structural walls, allowing for larger and more continuous rooms. The definition of the different areas is achieved through the use of color and integrated design solutions, responding to contemporary living patterns.
