Estrela House

From multi-family housing to a single-family residence

The Casa Estrela project consists of the legalization and alteration of an existing multi-family residential building, located in the Estrela neighborhood, with the aim of adapting it to the requirements of a new single-family residential program. The intervention reduces the number of existing units from four to a single dwelling. The proposal preserves the identity of the building, maintaining its façades, volumetry and outdoor space, while introducing only targeted adjustments to the elevations and the rear roof, namely through the modification of openings, removal of enclosed balconies and the introduction of dormer windows. The existing courtyard is requalified, incorporating a small swimming pool and preserving the existing fruit trees.

At the interior level, the project proposes a complete reorganization of the spaces, redefining the layout across all floors to meet contemporary housing needs. It includes the careful preservation of existing elements, such as the tiles on the main facade and the balconies, columns and circular metal staircases at the rear.

In the Estrela neighborhood, four dwellings become one home — architecture preserves the building's identity while transforming the way of living.
