The project involves the rehabilitation, alteration and extension of former warehouse buildings at Catapereiro, owned by Companhia das Lezírias, to accommodate the future Livestock Veterinary Hospital of Lusófona University. The intervention aims to expand the academic and practical facilities of the Veterinary Medicine program, while establishing a reference center for animal production support, serving both the local community and the surrounding region.
The proposal is based on the adaptation of the existing buildings, preserving their architectural, constructive and landscape identity, with most interventions concentrated on the interior to meet the requirements of the new functional program. New internal and external circulation systems are introduced, including differentiated vehicle access routes for animals, services and logistics, ensuring the efficient operation of the hospital facility. Exterior interventions are deliberately restrained, favoring the preservation of permeable surfaces and the existing landscape, in compliance with the applicable territorial and regulatory framework.
