The British School of Lisbon

Rehabilitation and conservation in Lisbon's historic center

The project involves a conservation and rehabilitation intervention of the existing building located on Rua de São Paulo, in the Cais do Sodré area, maintaining its current use while adapting it to the requirements of an educational institution. Interior works are entirely non-structural, focusing on finishes and painting, with the aim of upgrading the spaces and adapting them to school use through the replacement of existing materials with equivalent and compatible solutions.

In the outdoor areas, the proposal includes the rehabilitation of the existing spaces and the partial reorganization of the courtyard, allowing for the creation of a small play area intended for pre-school children. This intervention adopts a light and reversible approach, without altering ground levels, relationships with the surrounding context, public space or existing infrastructures, reflecting a restrained and adaptable strategy.
